National Volunteer Service of Papua New Guinea

Upcoming Plans

Expansion of Volunteer Engagement

NVS aims to significantly increase the number of volunteers, with targets rising from around 900 placements in 2026 to a total of about 2,900 volunteers by 2027. This growth will help extend services to more rural districts and wards nationwide.

Scaling Up Sectoral Impact

Volunteers will be strategically deployed in key sectors aligned with national development priorities, such as education (including early childhood learning), agriculture, community health, and primary healthcare support.

Strengthening Community Service Delivery

NVS plans to increase district and community engagement by placing more volunteers at sub-national levels — including partnerships with provincial governments to have at least one skilled volunteer in each ward or local level government.

Youth and Graduate Involvement

There is emphasis on increasing youth volunteerism and recruiting recent graduates — including collaborations with universities — to bring fresh skills and build workforce capacity.

Strategic Partnerships and Resource Mobilization

NVS is focusing on strengthening strategic partnerships with government agencies, provincial administrations, and development partners to expand implementation capacity and funding support for volunteer programs.

Integration with Development Planning

The organization’s service delivery plans are being progressively aligned with provincial and local government development frameworks to ensure volunteers support ongoing development agendas and measurable outcomes over time.

Professional Volunteerism and Policy Implementation

As part of broader organizational reform, NVS continues to implement its policy on professional volunteerism, aiming to standardize volunteer roles, training, monitoring, and evaluation for greater impact and sustainability.
