Through the National Volunteer Service (NVS) of Papua New Guinea, a dedicated education-sector volunteer was successfully engaged at Sabusa Primary School, making a meaningful impact on teaching and learning outcomes. The volunteer worked closely with teachers to strengthen lesson planning, improve classroom management, and introduce learner-centred teaching approaches that encouraged active student participation.
Key achievements included supporting literacy and numeracy programs, mentoring junior teachers, and assisting in the development of teaching resources using locally available materials. These efforts not only enhanced classroom delivery but also fostered innovation and adaptability among teachers. As a result, students demonstrated increased confidence, improved participation, and greater enthusiasm for learning, while teachers reported stronger instructional skills and renewed motivation.
This engagement highlights the vital role of NVS volunteers in enhancing education quality at the community level. By building teacher capacity, improving student outcomes, and promoting sustainable practices, the initiative at Sabusa Primary School demonstrates how volunteerism contributes directly to strengthening Papua New Guinea’s primary education system and advancing long-term community development.
