Southern Region Volunteers

The Southern region of Papua New Guinea (PNG) includes the provinces of Central, Gulf, Northern, and Southern Highlands, along with the nation’s capital, Port Moresby, located in the Central Province. This region is characterized by diverse landscapes, ranging from coastal plains to highland plateaus, and is home to a wide variety of cultures and languages. The economy is driven by agriculture, with crops such as oil palm, cocoa, and coffee being cultivated, along with significant contributions from mining and natural resource extraction. Port Moresby, as the capital, is the country’s economic and administrative hub, but much of the Southern region remains rural and reliant on subsistence farming.

Volunteer projects in the Southern region focus on areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure development, and environmental sustainability. Volunteers work in partnership with local communities and organizations to improve access to basic services, such as healthcare and education, and assist with economic development through skills training and capacity building. In the more remote areas, volunteers help with projects focused on clean water, sanitation, and agricultural practices. These volunteer efforts aim to empower communities to overcome challenges and create sustainable solutions for long-term development.
