1. NATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY (NVD)         12 July

National Volunteer Day was gazetted by Parliament to be observed every year on July 12th. It is a day to recognize the effort of volunteers throughout the country who sacrificed their lives to serve people who are in need of basic services. It is also a day to promote the spirit of volunteerism in our communities, society and country. Papua New Guineans are natural volunteers, as it is a fundamental part of our Melanesian culture to help others in need without demanding for any payment or reward.

Over the years and in this modern time, Papua New Guineans have forgotten the true spirit of volunteerism and have expectation for big monetary payments in exchange for services given. So, NVD is not just about volunteers working in organizations like NVS but about all citizens of this country who contribute one way or the other in the true spirit of volunteerism to help others who really are in need.

2. INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY. 5TH       5 Dec

International Volunteer Day is a day observed worldwide on the 5th of December to recognize and thank the efforts and work of volunteers in different countries around the world. Papua New Guinea itself is home to many volunteer agency groups from overseas and NVS as a government volunteer agency would like to encourage everyone to appreciate the work of volunteers here in PNG.
